2010 - Year of Biodversity

The United Nations has declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity. This will help raise public awareness of the many facets of biological diversity. Throughout the year a host of international, national and local events and actions on biodiversity will take place all over the world. The International Year of Biodiversity was launched with an official ceremony in Berlin on 11 January.

Rainforest pilot project is protecting climate and species

Study: Export of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

More than 155,000 tonnes of what is sometimes hazardous electronic waste are exported annually from Germany to non-European destinations, a volume which includes some 50,000 tonnes of PC and television monitors alone. [ more]

3 March: International day of species conservation 2010

This year, the date is particularly significant: only 10 days later, negotiations will commence at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in Doha, Qatar. [ more]

Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Bali

At the end of the Global Ministerial Environment Forum Federal Environment Minister Dr Norbert Röttgen stated: "I welcome that the UNEP Governing Council has agreed to develop concise proposals on how to organise international environment policy much more efficiently." [ more]
