Germany’s Path into the Renewable Energy Age

A young girl blowing on a pinwheel. In the background, several windmills. The transformation of the energy system is the major modernisation and innovation project for our economy at the start of the 21st century. New "smart grids" and new technologies for electricity storage are the way forward. Industry will increase its energy and resource efficiency at the same time and manufacture consumer goods - from light bulbs to cars - which consume less energy. And, not least, our buildings will be much better insulated, and their remaining energy demand will be covered primarily by renewable sources. However, it is essential to ensure that energy remains affordable for everyone. That is why the Federal Government is relying on a mix of publicly funded support schemes and economic incentives in order to promote renewable energies and energy efficiency. This puts Germany in the lead on climate protection, both in Europe and internationally, and we hope that we can motivate other countries to invest in the technologies of the future and start out on the path into the renewable energy age.
